Publicado el miércoles, 25 de marzo de 2020 a las 16:25
OBJECT:
Reward achievements in renewable energy production on the islands.
What is the 'Responsible Island' award?
This award will reward achievements in local renewable energy production for electricity, heating, cooling and transportation on the islands.
The name of the award refers to the combination of renewable energy (RES) and responsibility.
Why is there an award?
The islands often have high local energy costs, but can benefit from the transition to renewable energy sources in many ways.
These include, among others, the creation of local jobs and opportunities for sustainable tourism.
There are more than 2000 inhabited islands in the EU. They are ideal test laboratories for developing innovative energy technologies and can serve as energy transition models for small communities at large.
The prize will be awarded based on:
The share of renewable energy produced by innovative energy technologies
Sustainability and environmental and socioeconomic impact
Citizen and community participation
Replicability of the solution
The award should inspire other islands and communities outside the network to show how small local communities can transition to sustainable energy systems.
Prize value
1st place: € 500,000
2nd place: € 250,000
3rd place: € 100,000
