Baidu and Alibaba capture 70% of China online ad spending

iResearch China’s 2014 Internet Economy report provides a complete overview of digital trends in China over the last year. This chart from the report shows the top 10 online media platforms ranked by advertising revenue in 2014 – highlighting Baidu and Alibaba’s dominance in the market with 70% of all digital ad dollars spent. While Baidu generates the bulk of it’s revenue from search, Alibaba’s emergence as an online media player is one of the factors that has lead to the ecommerce giant’s massive valuation. It also explains why brands ranging from Burberry to Shangri-La have opened official Tmall flagship stores to reach consumers coming to China’s most popular online shopping destination.
