50 SMEs from 14 countries have been selected in the latest round of Horizon2020 SME Instrument Phase 2. Each project, 47 in total, will receive up to € 2.5 million (€ 5 million for health projects) to finance innovation activities like demonstration, testing, piloting, scaling up and miniaturisation, in addition to developing a mature business plan for their product.
The companies involved in the projects will also benefit from 12 days of business coaching. Most projects are proposed by a single SME but some companies team-up to elaborate a project.
The European Commission received 553 project proposals involving 689 participants by 3 February, the first cut-off date for Phase 2 in 2016.
Spanish SMEs were the most successful with 14 beneficiaries who will receive € 15.4 million in total, followed by 8 German SMEs who will share € 14.8 million. The total project costs amount to € 73 million. Most projects are in the field of ICT with 9 proposals funded, followed by 7 in the field of transport and 6 in both energy efficiency and sustainable food production.
Since the launch of the programme on 1st January 2014, 406 SMEs have been selected under Phase 2 of the SME Instrument.
The next cut-off for SME Instrument Phase 2 is 14 April 2016.
